4.Job Description (Percentage of work responsibility during the Tenure-track period)
Teaching (20%)
?1)Teaching tourism-related subjects (equivalent to 4 credits of semester or quarter
?subjects)
?2)Contributing to tourism-related educational activities (e.g. organizing seminars
?and workshops) for students and the local community?
?3)Contributing to tourism-related educational activities (e.g. organizing training
?courses) for domestic and international stakeholders?
Research (60%)
? 1)Proactive journal article publications to international academic journals (at least
?one peer-reviewed paper per year)
?2)Research activities such as presentations at international conferences
?3)Obtaining external funding, including Grants-in Aid Scientific Research
?4)Organizing and presenting at symposiums and seminars
Social Engagement (10%)
? 1)Planning, implementing, and conducting joint research in domestic and international
?tourist destinations on tourism-related projects
Management and Administration (10%)
? 1)Coordinating activities to achieve the CTR’s goals and plans
?2)Contributing to the internationalization of Wakayama University

6.Application Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements.
? 1)Doctoral degree in tourism or a related field, or equivalent ability
?2)Publication of academic journal articles and research activities in English
?3)Ability to teach in English
7.Terms of Employment
Employment Period
Five years according to the tenure-track system. (Six months from the date of appointment
is a probationary period.) Once a tenure grant is approved at the tenure qualification
review within five years of employment, an ongoing position will be granted. The conditions
for the granting of tenure are to accumulate an evaluation each year in the annual tenure
evaluation and achieve a certain level of evaluation in the tenure eligibility review.
The retirement age for Tenure Track members is 65 years old. (For details, see Regulations

Work Schedule
5 days a week, basic work hours are 8:30 am to 5:15 pm (considered as working 7 hours and
45 minutes per day.)
Holidays
Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and year-end and New Year holidays. (Details are
based on the Regulations on Employment of Faculty and Staff of Wakayama University)

Salary
Based on the annual salary system (in accordance with articles 13-15 of the Regulations on
the Researcher Development-type Tenure Track System of Wakayama University (「国立大学法人
和歌山大学研究者育成型テニュア?トラック制度」) and the Salary Regulations for Faculty
members of Wakayama University).
Social Welfare
Mutual Insurance (Health Insurance), Welfare Pension Insurance, Employment Insurance,
Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance
Reference: Average annual salary (total amount paid including tax)
Lecturer: Approx. 5,000,000 ~ 6,000,000 yen
Assistant Professor: Approx. 4,000,000 ~ 5,000,000 yen
*The actual amount of salary will be determined individually, based on each person's degree
